You need to feel comfortable in a relationship. But what about in a breakup?

Young twentysomething couple Rinko and Isamu are in a loving and nurturing relationship. They have been living together for three years and are fully supportive of one another. Rinko’s friends think marriage is in their future until Rinko reveals an important development: they actually broke up six months ago but are still cohabitating. While Rinko can’t quite decide how to handle their confusing new arrangement, she notices Isamu is moving on quicker than she anticipated or hoped.

Navigating a breakup can be a painful process, and LOVE AND GOODBYE AND HAWAII handles all of these complex emotions with humor, delicacy, and subtle charm. It finds beauty in the past, but also in the way people grow slowly, timidly apart. And then there’s Hawaii, the paradise that everyone wants to escape to, but which is ultimately a foil for that which is right before its characters: memories that need not be forgotten. –James Paguyo
