Homeless by choice, Dylan wanders from place to place with no plan, no money, and no idea of where he will go next. When Chinese filmmaker Nanfu Wang (Hooligan Sparrow) meets Dylan in a hostel, she becomes captivated by his story and his charisma, as does pretty much everyone he encounters. She decides to follow Dylan and live the wanderer lifestyle as he does, filming life on the South Florida streets. Split into three chapters, I AM ANOTHER YOU documents Nanfu’s unflappable interest in understanding the desire for a kind of freedom alien to somebody who grew up in China.

What starts off as an ethnography of street life leads Wang across the U.S. to the family that hasn’t seen Dylan in years, and into the personal demons and disaffection that comes with self-determination. Compassionate, thrilling, and full of surprises, I AM ANOTHER YOU is an edge-of-your-seat allegory of America worthy of Serial. –Aleya Zenieris
