As the title of a recent Filipino hit reminds us, there’s that thing called meant-to-be. But as KITA KITA (I SEE YOU) adds, the way fated love is supposed to lock into place can never be taken for granted.

Lea is a Filipina tour guide working in Japan. Just when she finally starts to settle into a happy new life, things suddenly go black—literally. Then one day a new neighbor, Tonyo, starts showing up at her doorstep with fragrant adobo and a desire for friendship. With Tonyo’s help, Lea reluctantly emerges from her dark corner and into a place of new warmth and light.

From the director of Anita’s Last Cha-Cha (SDAFF ‘14) and Lorna (SDAFF ’15) comes a quirky rom-com that solidifies Sigrid Andrea Bernardo as one of the freshest voices of crossover indies in the Philippines. Oozing with charm, humor, and simplicity, KITA KITA reminds us that love can hit us anytime and be as mismatched as a heart and a banana, but as long as the fun is real and the yearnings are genuine, there is always room in a heart for love.
