You’ll need sunglasses too, because this year’s lineup is coming in hot. Hot like the freshest new films coming out of Asia. Hot like the sweltering emotions of KAPOOR & SONS and SPA NIGHT or the documentary intensity of TA’ANG. Hot like the fiery tracks spit by the title hero of SONITA, and hot like the Asian American fireballs Dumbfoundead and Awkwafina, stars of BAD RAP. And of course, hot like the roman porno reboots WET WOMAN IN THE WIND and ANTI-PORNO, which inject art into the erotic.

At the 17th edition of the San Diego Asian Film Festival, feel the burn 140 times over in 18 different languages across six venues throughout the county. This is the largest showcase of Asian cinema on the west coast, an annual celebration of works that inflame, incite, and inspire. But for this violent year in particular, these films hold our feet to the fire, asking questions of who we are, what we believe in, and what we choose to do in the face of injustice and inequality.
